Prep
Mash the black beans in a bowl, work in the ground beef, salt and pepper, then shape into one patty.

Sear
Heat a dry nonstick skillet over medium-high and sear the patty 3 to 4 minutes per side until deep brown with clear juices.

Toast
Toast the split sandwich thin cut-side down over medium heat about 1 minute until the surface is golden and warm.

Build
Spread Dijon on the base, layer lettuce, tomato and red onion, then set the patty on top and add sliced avocado.

Plate
Close with the top of the sandwich thin, press gently and serve immediately while the patty is hot.
