Patty Melt

A patty melt layers a seared beef patty, caramelized onions, and melted Swiss cheese between two slices of griddled rye bread. The bread is buttered and toasted until crisp and golden, giving a grilled-sandwich crunch around a savory, oniony, cheese-bound center. Served hot as a diner classic.
